The Kleinziegenfelder dolomite , also francs dolomite called, is a carbonate - rock . It occurs south of Weismain in the Northern Franconian Jura in Upper Franconia near the small town of Kleinziegenfeld . The Wachenzeller dolomite is also one of the Franconian dolomites . It comes from the Jura in the Malm Delta.

Rock description

The small goat field dolomite is a gray-brown, cloud-like structured dolomite . It consists one hundred percent of the mineral dolomite , has a dense structure and rarely contains fossils. The crystal size is 0.1 to 0.2 millimeters. Cracks or cavities are filled with ferrous and clayey substance. The deposits that are mined are tabular sponge-lawn limestone.

There are two different types of paint in the quarry. The monochrome variety with a yellowish-gray coloration and slight clouding is called "Uni", the "flowered variety" has a lighter shade and gray, brownish and greenish clouds.

use

The dolomite obtained in the Kleinziegenfelder quarry is suitable as a brick, facing brick, shaped slab, paving stone, for floor and facade slabs, stairs, chimneys, statues, tombs and window sills and can be polished. It is weather-resistant, but easily fades outdoors.

The small goat field dolomite was installed in the administration building of the VW plant in Wolfsburg , in the steel works Hösch in Dortmund, in the building of the former Girozentrale in Koblenz, in the WestLB in Düsseldorf, the TU , the Residenz and in the Karlstor in Munich. Other public buildings in which the stone was used are the Altmühlbrücke Kinding , Bamberg Cathedral , St. Andreas Church in Weiden and the Heilig-Kreuz-Münster in Rottweiler .
