history

Map of Weiden from 1851

It is not known when Weiden was founded. The oldest parts of the fortified church of St. Andrew date from the 12th century, so that it can be assumed that the village was founded around the turn of the millennium.

The first mention was in 1122 with Heinrich de "Widene". In 1382, the Bamberg bishop Lamprecht von Brunn arranged for the Weiden chapel to be re-pared from Altenkunstadt to Modschiedel.

In the Middle Ages, the village and the whole surrounding area were attacked and partially destroyed several times, for example in the Hussite Wars , the Reformation Wars and the Peasants' War in 1525, furthermore in the Margrave War in the 1550s and in the Thirty Years War , in which the late medieval church was completely destroyed and it was only rebuilt in 1954 on the preserved Romanesque foundations and wall remains.

On January 1, 1977, the municipality, which had been independent since 1853, was incorporated into the city of Weismain.

The church was restored between 1981 and 1984. The adjacent morgue was renovated in 2008 by the village community on its own. In 2011 a comprehensive renovation of the church took place.
