etymology

In the local variety of the Upper Franconian dialect , the place name is [ lųəχhaųs ] , pronounced: luuechhaus or [ lǫχhaųs ] , pronounced: lochhaus . The first of the two dialect forms shows a diphthongized elevation from Central German "ō" (as well as in large to grųəs ), which is common for the dialect , the second form is much younger and based on the standard German language . The defining word loch comes from the Central German lōch and means something like bushes, woods or woods. The name of the settlement can therefore be interpreted as a house hidden in the forest .
