Krassach is a village with 47 inhabitants. It belongs as a separate district to the city of Weismain in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels , in the north of the Free State of Bavaria .
Geographical location
Krassach is located at about 345 m above sea level. NN at the open end of the Bärental and is traversed by the river Krassach of the same name . The valley and the slopes surrounding the village belong to the northern foothills of the Franconian Jura , in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park . The next villages are Niesten , Krassacher Mühle and Wohnsig . The city center of Weismain is located around 1.9 kilometers northwest.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1286 as "Krazza". This spelling appeared again in 1303; for 1315 is “Craza”; for 1339 "Krasaw" handed down. Furthermore, the spelling “Krasse” is found for 1362 and the current spelling “Krassach” for the first time in 1419/20. It is primarily a water name, which is derived from the Slavic word Krasna and could mean beautiful water .
The Catholic Chapel of the Holy Trinity was built in 1938 on behalf of Heinrich Müller DJC. It is octagonal with a separate choir and roof turret and has several round windows decorated with stained glass, which were donated by various villagers. In 1996/97 and 2012 the Kapellenbauverein Krassach carried out various renovation measures.
Krassach was incorporated into Weismain on January 1, 1978 as a district of the Neudorf community together with Görau , Herbstmühle , Niesten and Seubersdorf .
