history

Wohnsig town plan from 1851

The immediate vicinity of Wohnsig was inhabited by the 13th century at the latest. This is indicated by the discovery of a coin hoard of 123 silver pennies, each weighing 0.3 to 0.5 grams, and four other coins from the late 13th century.

The first mention was 1306 with "Konrad de Wansaze", citizen in Weismain.

In the 19th century, the exclusively Catholic village population built a chapel. In 1977 it was replaced by a new one with the patronage of James the Elder due to its dilapidation . The chapel in the center of the village is decorated with a depiction of the Coronation of Mary from the 18th century.

On January 1, 1976, Wohnsig was incorporated into the city of Weismain as a former district of Modschiedel .
