Wohnsig is a village with 62 inhabitants and belongs to the town of Weismain in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels in the north of the Free State of Bavaria .
Geographical location
Wohnsig is located at 455 m above sea level. NN on a plateau, about 500 meters west of the Bärental . The plateau belongs to the northern foothills of the Franconian Jura , in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park . The city center of Weismain is about 2.6 kilometers north of it. The next villages are Krassach , Krassacher Mühle , Neudorf , Wunkendorf , Wallersberg and Schammendorf .
history
The immediate vicinity of Wohnsig was inhabited by the 13th century at the latest. This is indicated by the discovery of a coin hoard of 123 silver pennies, each weighing 0.3 to 0.5 grams, and four other coins from the late 13th century.
The first mention was 1306 with "Konrad de Wansaze", citizen in Weismain.
In the 19th century, the exclusively Catholic village population built a chapel. In 1977 it was replaced by a new one with the patronage of James the Elder due to its dilapidation . The chapel in the center of the village is decorated with a depiction of the Coronation of Mary from the 18th century.
On January 1, 1976, Wohnsig was incorporated into the city of Weismain as a former district of Modschiedel .
