Location of Großziegenfeld in Bavaria

Großziegenfeld is a district of the city of Weismain in the Lichtenfels district in Upper Franconia / Bavaria with 123 inhabitants. The village has always been structured in a rural way; In the 20th century it was known nationwide for its dairy farming and breeding.

history

prehistory

When Großziegenfeld was founded is unclear. The oldest find that suggests human settlement is the approximately twelve centimeter long blade of a spout ax from around 1000 BC. Chr.

middle Ages

In 1240 were wholesale and Kleinziegenfeld as fiefs under the feudal lord Godfrey of Zigen field ( "Gotfridus de Ziginvelt") believed to possess the in Arnstein -based Hermann von Arnstein. When the aristocratic Arnstein family died out a little later, in 1244, Otto II of Meranien acquired the property and rule, so that from then on Großziegenfeld belonged to the Andechs-Meranians . When Otto died in Niesten Castle in 1248 , his former property belonged to the Truhendingen family , as the sister of the last Duke Otto von Meran had married Count Friedrich von Truhendingen.

In 1308, Bishop Wulfing von Stubenberg from Bamberg bought the Franconian property of the Truhendinger family. In a document from 1390 a purchase price of 5000 Nuremberg pounds is given. It is obvious that Großziegenfeld had belonged to the Bamberg Monastery for a long time, since the tithe was paid to the Bamberg bishops before 1308 . Otto VI received half of this tithe . who then resided on the Plassenburg as a fief. With part of it he enfeoffed Albert von Zigenfeld in 1301.

From 1520 Großziegenfeld belonged to the parish of Arnstein, which had been in the possession of the bishop since 1390.

19th century until today

Until the secularization in 1803, Großziegenfeld belonged to the Bamberg Monastery . After that the place was subordinate to the regional court Scheßlitz .

In 1871 the volunteer fire brigade Großziegenfeld was founded, in the same year a water pipe was dug from the valley floor and relocated to the village. This ended in a well in front of the parish hall, which was supplied with water from the Weismain by a water-powered turbine . Almost 50 years later, in 1918, the goat field was connected to the water supply network and the well was shut down. In the 1950s the road to Großziegenfeld was graveled and paved in 1961. The land consolidation took place in the early 1960s and was completed in 1965.

The foundation stone for the Mauritius Chapel was laid on September 1, 1957 at the initiative of the Chapel Building Association. The chapel was inaugurated around two years later, on December 6, 1959. The church was built by the local population. The parish hall was previously located here. Großziegenfeld was an independent municipality until 1976. In the course of the regional reform it was incorporated into Weismain on January 1, 1977.

After the village restaurants were closed, a fire brigade and community house was built in 1988 as a location for gatherings of the village community and clubs.

Between 1996 and 1999 the sewer system in Großziegenfeld was expanded and renewed. In the course of these construction measures, the through-road and the village square were expanded and beautified and received their present appearance. A children's playground was set up on the village square and a football field was built on the edge of the village. From 1999 to 2000 the church was renovated inside and outside and re-covered with slate for the district garden day. The costs of 150,000  DM (~ 93,000 €) were raised by the villagers almost without any subsidies. In the spring of 2000, the district gardening day took place in Großziegenfeld, which around 15,000 visitors came.
