Wunkendorf is a village with 121 inhabitants and belongs to the town of Weismain in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels in the north of the Free State of Bavaria .
Geographical location
Wunkendorf is located at 455 m above sea level. NN on a plateau, about 500 meters west of the Bärental . The plateau belongs to the northern foothills of the Franconian Jura in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park . The city center of Weismain is about four kilometers to the north. The next villages are Wohnsig , Neudorf , Seubersdorf (Weismain) , Modschiedel , Weiden , Wallersberg and Schammendorf .
history
The first documentary mention was in 1137, when Wunkendorf came into the possession of the Bamberg Michelsberg Monastery .
After the First World War , the then exclusively Catholic village population built a small chapel in the center of the village to commemorate the war. She has received the patronage of the Sacred Heart on 11 June 1923 consecrated .
On January 1, 1976, Wunkendorf was incorporated into the city of Weismain as a former district of Modschiedel .
