Neudorf is a village with 114 inhabitants and belongs to the town of Weismain in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels in the north of the Free State of Bavaria .

Geographical location

Neudorf is located at 488  m above sea level. NN on a plateau, about 500 meters east of the Bärental . The plateau belongs to the northern foothills of the Franconian Jura in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park . The city center of Weismain is about 3.2 kilometers to the northwest. The nearest villages are Krassacher Mühle , Krassach , Niesten , Görau , Wunkendorf , Herbstmühle and Wohnsig .

history

The immediate vicinity of Neudorf was inhabited as a clearing settlement from the 13th century at the latest. This is indicated by the discovery of a coin hoard from the late 13th century. It was a total of 1331 silver pennies that were found in 1952 by a farmer working in the fields. The coins were buried in an approximately twelve centimeter high clay pot in 1291, probably as a result of a disaster. The first documentary mention was in 1330 as "Nwendorf".

The previous building of the present church of St. Clement , a small, Saints Clement and Wendelin consecrated wooden chapel was first mentioned 1520th 1734 has become too small chapel was a church from sandstone in the Baroque style replaced. Up until the 19th century it was a popular place of pilgrimage , where pilgrims prayed to St. Wendelin in the stable when the cattle were sick or accidents occurred.

On January 1, 1978, the municipality of Neudorf, which had been independent since 1818, was dissolved and incorporated into Weismain together with the districts of Görau, Herbstmühle, Krassach, Niesten and Seubersdorf . The Zultenberg district was added to the Kasendorf market in the Kulmbach district.
