Giechkröttendorf is a district of Weismain in the Lichtenfels district with 60 inhabitants.
Geographical location
Giechkröttendorf is located in the western part of the Pfauengrund , a valley between the Kordigast and the Kröttenstein in the northern foothills of the Franconian Jura in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park . A small stream flows through the valley and flows into the Weismain . The center of Weismain is about one kilometer away.
history
In 1350, Chunrad von Giech received the possessions around the Kröttenstein from the Bamberg monastery as a fief . The current village name, which is made up of the name of the noble family and the name of the toad stone located southwest of the village, goes back to this time.
The Giechkröttendorf castle was first mentioned in the 1422nd Eight years later, a chapel was first mentioned in the village that no longer exists. The castle was partially destroyed and burned down during the Peasants' War in 1525. The final reconstruction did not take place until 1571/76. In 1607, the then landlord, Achaz von Giech zu Kröttenstein, had the castle pledged to the Langheim monastery . In 1618 the monastery purchased the property.
The probably oldest drawing of the Giechkröttendorfer Castle is contained in a map from 1672, which was created on the occasion of a disputed shaft drive on the Kordigast. In old records in 1689 sheep breeding was named as the most important industry in the village.
On January 24, 1991, the local chapel building association was founded, which initiated the construction of today's chapel. The laying of the foundation stone took place on May 23, 1992, the Benediction on May 28, 1994.
