The valley in which the village is located is one of the foothills of the northern Franconian Jura in the Franconian Switzerland - Franconian Jura Nature Park .

history

The area around Altendorf was settled at the latest from the Neolithic Age , as indicated by three settlement finds and a grave from prehistoric times. The first documentary mention was in 1096 through a confirmation of a legal transaction by the Bamberg bishop Rupert .

From 1810 Altendorf belonged together with Siedamsdorf , Bernreuth and Giechkröttendorf to the newly formed municipality of Kaspauer . The following year, a Catholic chapel was built on the village square as a half-timbered building with a hipped roof and turret with interior fittings. built.

As a result of the formation of municipalities in Bavaria after the Second Constitution of the Kingdom of Bavaria was passed, the municipality of Kaspauer was restructured and from 1818 consisted only of Altendorf, Siedamsdorf and the main town of Kaspauer.

The volunteer fire brigade Altendorf with Siedamsdorf was founded on July 29, 1906 by 18 men from the two villages. The occasion was the barn fire of master bricklayer Wich in Altendorf in 1892, which despite intensive efforts could hardly be extinguished due to a lack of water and material. Since the village only had a small bucket syringe at that time, the district fire brigade inspector turned to the Lichtenfels district office in 1901 with the request to persuade the Kaspauer community to purchase a modern and powerful extinguishing machine for Altendorf. This was initially rejected with reference to the syringe available in Kaspauer and the lack of water in Altendorf. Not least due to the school building in 1901, the population of Altendorf delayed the construction of the fire pond required by the district office until 1903. In spring 1906 Altendorf received a used mobile fire extinguisher from the community of Motschenbach near Mainleus . Fire extinguishing equipment has also been increased in Siedamsdorf. In order to ensure good organization in the event of a fire, both places finally founded the volunteer fire brigade together.

Around 1920 the local water pipe in Altendorf was relocated and in 1922 the dilapidated community hall was demolished. The first fire station was built in Altendorf in 1929 to store the fire extinguisher and other utensils . The objects were previously stored in several barns in the village.

On July 1, 1976, the municipality of Kaspauer and its associated places were incorporated into Weismain. A new tool shed was built in Altendorf and a TS 8 extinguishing pump was purchased. The tool shed, which had become too small, was expanded in 1992/1993 and an extension was added, which serves as a training room and as a meeting place for the village community. In April 1999, Siedamsdorf, together with Altendorf and Kaspauer as a village community, received the Sparkassen-Förderpreis for outstanding achievements in nature conservation and environmental protection.
