The canton of Sagrario is a municipality in the Department of Potosí in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The Cantón Sagrario is one of seventeen cantons in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Cotagaita in the province of Nor Chichas . It borders in the north with the canton Río Blanco , in the west with the canton Quechisla , in the south with the province Sur Chichas , and in the east and northeast with the canton Cotagaita .
The canton extends between about 20 ° 54 'and 21 ° 02' south latitude and 65 ° 52 'and 66 ° 05' west longitude, it measures up to ten kilometers from north to south and up to twenty kilometers from west to east. There are three municipalities in the canton, the central place is Sagrario on the northern edge of the canton with 847 inhabitants ( 2001 ). The canton is located at an average altitude of around 4000 m .

The canton of Sagrario is located on the southeastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano between the Cordillera de Chichas and the Cordillera de Lípez to the south . The climate in the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.
The mean annual temperature in the canton is 6 ° C (see climate diagram Tasna Rosario), the monthly values fluctuate between 2 ° C in June / July and 8 to 9 ° C in the summer months from November to March. The annual precipitation reaches only 200 mm, and while there is almost no precipitation for seven months, the summer precipitation with monthly values between 20 and 50 mm is hardly sufficient for significant plant growth - also due to the altitude.

The population density of the Municipio Cotagaita at the last census in 2001 was 3.7 inhabitants / km², the proportion of the urban population was 0 percent, the proportion of the population under 15 years of age was 44.9 percent.
The literacy rate among those over 19 years of age is 67 percent, 89 percent for men and 49 percent for women. The most important idiom with a share of 96 percent is Quechua , 73 percent of the population speak Spanish . 76 percent of the population are Catholic, 19 percent Protestant. ( 2001 )
