The canton of Cotagaita is a municipality in the Department of Potosí in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Cantón Cotagaita is one of seventeen cantons in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Cotagaita in the province of Nor Chichas . It borders in the north with the canton of Vichacla , in the north-west with the canton Río Blanco , in the west with the canton Sagrario , in the south with the province Sur Chichas , in the south-east with the canton Ramadas , the canton Laytapi and the canton Valle Hermoso , in the east to the canton of Carlos Medinacelli and the canton of Mormorque , and in the northeast to the canton of Pampa Grande and the canton of La Carreta .

The canton extends between about 20 ° 41 'and 21 ° 10' south latitude and 65 ° 20 'and 66 ° 00' west longitude, it measures from north to south up to 50 kilometers, from west to east up to 40 kilometers. The canton of Cotagaita is located in the southern part of the barren plateau of the Bolivian Altiplano . The climate is cool and dry because of the inland location and is characterized by a typical daytime climate, in which the temperature fluctuations between day and night are usually significantly greater than the seasonal fluctuations.
