from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Klemmbergpark is a listed park in the town of Weißenfels in Saxony-Anhalt . The park is listed as a monument area in the local monument register.

General

The Klemmbergpark was laid out as a public park on the Klemmberg between 1904 and 1907. It is located east of the old town of Weißenfels on the Klemmberg. The underground of the park consists of red sandstone . It has been recognized as a protected landscape component since 2001 and has been a listed building since February 27, 2015. In its current size, the Klemmbergpark forms a T in an east-west direction . The west end is at the Bismarck tower near the slope edge and the east end at the Feldherrnbank . The Soviet Cemetery of Honor and the Schillerstein are centrally located in the park .

Monuments

There are various monuments in the park.

Feldherrenbank in Weißenfels

General Bank

The Feldherrenbank today consists of a slightly curved bench. There are two balls on the armrests. Two bronze busts that belonged to the bank disappeared in the 1930s. It is assumed that the bank was built by Paul Juckoff in 1913 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig . It is dedicated to the two Prussian equestrian generals Friedrich Wilhelm von Seydlitz and Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher . The Feldherrenbank was renovated in 2005.

Soviet cemetery of honor

The memorial complex was handed over as the Soviet Cemetery of Honor on April 3, 1949. During the time of the GDR it was claimed that soldiers of the Soviet Union who died in the fight against fascism are buried here. However, since the areas west of the Elbe were liberated by the US Army , this statement cannot be true. Similar to Halle , it is more of a memorial complex for dead prisoners from the prison camps of Weißenfels and from the surrounding area.

A fence surrounds the complex, in the middle of which there is a stele with a five-pointed Soviet star . The stele is surrounded by uniform graves , which have meanwhile grown over, so that their inscriptions can no longer be read. On the south side of the stele are the words:

"Вечная память
жертвам фашизма
павшим в борьбе
за свободу и независимость
советской родины"

In German:

Eternal memory of
the victims of fascism
in the struggle
for freedom and independence in
the Soviet homeland.

Schillerstein in Weißenfels

Schillerstein

The Schillerstein was erected on the 100th anniversary of Friedrich Schiller's death in 1905, donated by the Royal Weissenfels Teachers' College. The inscription on the Schillerstein reads:

He has swung himself up to the highest.
Closely related to everything we value.
So celebrate him! Because what
only half gives a man life should be given entirely by posterity

such as

In memory
of the Schiller celebration of
the German people
on May 9, 1905,
the town of Weißenfels was
dedicated by the King. Teachers seminar

The Schillerstein is a boulder and between the two inscriptions there is a coin with the portrait of Schiller embedded in the boulder.
