The Cistercian Abbey of Himmelstädt ( Latin Locus caeli ) was ten kilometers northwest of Landsberg an der Warthe (Gorzów Wielkopolski) .

history

The Brandenburg Margrave Otto IV. Ceded in 1300 to the Cistercian monastery Kolbatz large estates to Landsberg to near Crevetsdorp ( cancer village to erect a daughter house). However, the establishment was slow. The first monks in Krebsdorf can be traced back to 1314 , and in 1328 the monastery was still under construction. In 1351, a court master ruled in addition to the monks .

In 1376, construction was evidently so advanced that what was then Hemestede received an abbot . There was also a convent from 1418 .

The existence of the monastery did not last long. In the course of the Reformation it was dissolved in 1539, and the 68 villages belonging to the monastery were combined in the electoral office of Himmelstädt.

In the Thirty Years War the office was devastated and the villages deserted. Only the amelioration of the Warthebruch , which was planned for 1722, but only started in 1765, revived the area. New settlements emerged in the quarry.

The Napoleonic Wars also resulted in the dissolution of the Himmelstädt office, whose places were mainly assigned to the newly formed Landsberg (Warthe) district from 1818 .

In 1872 a large fire destroyed the village and the monastery buildings in Himmelstädt. The monastery complex was not rebuilt, as the buildings were no longer needed. The ruins of the Gothic brick church were also razed .

In the village of Himmelstädt (Mironice) , which today is part of the rural community of Kłodawa (Kladow) in the powiat Gorzowski (Landsberg district), only brick ruins today indicate the location of the former Cistercian monastery.
