The Mont-Sainte-Marie Monastery (Mons Sanctae Mariae) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Labergement-Sainte-Marie in the Doubs department , Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region , in France . It was about 18 km south of Pontarlier .
history
The monastery, founded as the Hermitage of Mont-du-Fourg between the lakes of Remoray and Saint-Point , was attached to the Cistercian order in 1196 by Gaucher V von Salins as a subsidiary of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey and moved to its later location in 1243. By foundations of the lords of Chalon , the monastery was quickly wealthy and Joux and established the eight granges Pissenavache, Vons, Cessay, Montorge, Montigny, Montrinsans, Les Champs-Nouveaux and Pont de la tavern. In 1429, 1575 and 1639 the monastery was affected by fires and warlike events, but it was rebuilt each time. After the Thirty Years War , however, the recovery was difficult. The monastery came to an end during the French Revolution . The buildings were subsequently demolished. Part of the grave of the Lords of Chalon came to the Louvre . The St. Theodul chapel has been preserved on site.
