The Klosterbräu is the oldest brewery in the Upper Franconian city of Bamberg . It is located in the so-called Mühlenviertel directly on the Regnitz . The annual output is 4000 hectoliters.
history
Today's Klosterbräu, named after the Franciscan monastery in Bamberg in the immediate vicinity, was founded in 1533 as the prince-bishop's brown beer house. The brewery was first mentioned in a document as early as 1333. The respective prince-bishop of Bamberg owned the brewery until 1790 .
In 1851 Peter Braun from Kitzingen bought the building. The brewery remained in the possession of the Braun family until 2017. Since February 1, 2017, the brewery and restaurant have belonged to the Bamberg brewer family Wörner, who already operate the Kaiserdom brewery and the Kronprinz pub brewery , both in the Gaustadt district, as well as the Rathausschänke on the Upper Bridge in Bamberg. Today the Klosterbräu beer is still brewed directly behind the inn.
