Klosterbräuhaus in Steingaden

The Klosterbräuhaus in Steingaden , a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau , was built between 1787 and 1790. The former brewery of the Steingaden monastery , located at Welfenstrasse 13, is a protected architectural monument .

history

Abbot Gilbert Michl had the approximately 75 meter long brewery building built and equipped with the latest brewing technology. The beer was stored in the two-storey vaulted cellar under the brewhouse . On the ground floor, next to the brewhouse, there was the shepherd's workshop for making the barrels, a malt barn and the brandy and vinegar house . The Bräustübl , the malt kiln and rooms for staff and the master brewer were located on the first floor . The attic served as a granary. After secularization in 1803, brewing continued. In 1822 the building was extended to the north. After a fire in 1914, brewing was stopped and the building was converted into a cheese dairy in the following years . In 1971 it was converted into a modern industrial milk processing facility, which operated in the building until it was closed in 1996.
