The Sinngrund nature reserve was designated in April 1999. The natural sense flows through a wide meadow valley with larger wet meadow areas in the protected area . There are backwaters and alluvial forest remains in the valley floor . Germany's largest autochthonous population of chess flowers is located in the Sinngrund nature reserve, as well as the only known place of growth of the strand-leaved water fennel in Bavaria.
