The hairline-leaved water fennel ( Oenanthe peucedanifolia ), also called hairline water fennel or hairline horse seed , is a species of the genus water fennel ( Oenanthe ) within the umbelliferae family (Apiaceae).

description

Double-gold inflorescence

The hair-strand-leaved water fennel grows as a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 60 centimeters. The stems are mostly hollow. The middle leaves are usually bipinnate. All leaves have linear-lanceolate sections.

The flowering period extends from May to July. Many flowers stand together in double-gold inflorescences . The umbel rays and fruit stalks are thin. The envelope has at most one envelope sheet. The sheaths are shorter than the flower stalks. The outer petals of the marginal flowers are 2 to 3 millimeters long.

The fruit donut is almost spherical. The double achane is elongated-egg-shaped with a length of 2.5 to 3.5 millimeters, its greatest width is in the middle; their style is less than 1 to rarely 2 millimeters long.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.

Occurrence

The distribution area of the Haarstrang water fennel is in Western Europe and extends north to the Netherlands, in the south to Italy , the Balkan Peninsula and North Africa ( Algeria ). Its area includes Algeria, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia.

In Central Europe , the Haarstrang water fennel on the Rhine, south of Ludwigshafen am Rhein, reaches the eastern limit of its range north of the Alps . It rarely occurs in the Palatinate and Saarland ; it occurs sporadically in Savoy , as well as at the foot of the Alps as far as the Adda valley .

The hairline fennel thrives best on lime-poor , humus-rich , sandy or peaty , sometimes damp clay soils in areas with an average of high humidity. It inhabits swamp and bog meadows . It is a character species of the Caro-Juncetum acutiflori from the Juncion acutiflori association.

Taxonomy

Oenanthe peucedanifolia was first published in 1776 by Johann Adam Pollich . The specific epithet peucedanifolia means hairline-leaved.
