Johann Adam Pollich

Johann Adam Pollich (born January 1, 1741 in Kaiserslautern ; † February 24, 1780 ibid) was a German doctor and naturalist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Pollich ".

Live and act

Pollich studied medicine at the University of Strasbourg and practiced after receiving his doctorate. med. initially as a doctor. From 1764 he devoted himself exclusively to natural history, especially botanical research of the Palatinate.

As a result of his research he published the three-volume Historia plantarum in Palatinatu electorali ... , the first volume of which appeared in 1776, the two following volumes in 1777. Because of the exemplary plant descriptions in this work, it was highly appreciated by its contemporaries. It is also particularly noteworthy that Pollich was one of the first to value which plant appeared with which, i.e. published the beginnings of plant sociology. Pollich published the results of his zoological studies in two further papers.

Honors

The working in the Palatinate Association for Nature Research and Care Association was in his honor Pollichia named, as are the plant genus Pollichia cabinet from the family of Lamiaceae (Lamiaceae). From 1778 Johann Adam Pollich was a member of the Leopoldina .
