The Baumburg Monastery Brewery GmbH & Co. KG , or Baumburg Monastery Brewery or Baumburger for short, is a brewery in the Baumburg Monastery in Altenmarkt an der Alz . In recent years around 5,000  hectoliters of beer have been produced.

history

Baumburg Monastery, where the beer is brewed

The brewery was officially founded in 1612. In fact, beer was brewed at the Baumburg much earlier. Documents from 1435 already report a brewing activity. During the secularization of Bavaria in 1803, the monastery was bought by Herr von Röckl. Seven years later, however, he went bankrupt , so that the landlord from Altenmarkt took over the brewery. After he died, it passed into the possession of Ludwig Niggl in 1858. Between 1913 and 1950 the brewery was passed on to the family. From 1950 Johann Dietl was the new owner.

The water for beer production comes from the Alz and Traun rivers . Once removed, it is converted to table water with less than 6 mg nitrate per liter. The barley is grown on the Baumburger fields near Altenmarkt. The hops come from the Hallertau . After the beer has been produced, it is stored for at least eight to twelve weeks in a cellar that is one to two degrees cold to mature.

Since the Baumburg does not have its own bottling plant , the beer is bottled at the Schlossbrauerei Stein and the Weissbräu Schwendl .

environmental Protection

The electricity needed to make the beer is produced in the company's own hydropower plant on the Alz, and a fish ladder was built there in 2008 .

No chemicals are used to clean the brewing equipment. Instead, water with a temperature of over 100 degrees Celsius is used. The beer is only delivered directly within a radius of 25 km. The company's sales partners transport the bottles and kegs on longer routes.
