Knud Sørensen (politician)

Knud Sørensen (nickname Kunuuteeraq ( Little Knut ); born September 25, 1934 in Aasiaat ; † January 10, 2009 ) was a Greenlandic politician ( Atassut ) and trade administrator .

Life

Knud Sørensen is the son of the specialist teacher Hans Egede Berthelsen and the factory manager Sofie Sørensen bew. Joelsen. On June 14, 1965, he married the shop assistant Severine Sørensen (* 1944) from Iginniarfik . His younger half-brother is the pastor and writer Lars-Pele Berthelsen (* 1949).

He attended Efterskole in Aasiaat from 1948 to 1950 and finished secondary school in Nuuk in 1951 and then trained as a commercial and clerk assistant at Den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel until 1954 . From 1955 to 1958 he was employed as a manager in the now abandoned Manermiut and then moved to Killiit, which is also now uninhabited . From 1964 to 1968 he was an administrator in Iginniarfik before working in Attu . He then worked directly at KGH from 1971 to 1975. In 1983 he was a village assistant. From 1984 he was also a judge in Aasiaat.

In 1962 he was elected to the council of the municipality of Aasiaat , where he stayed until 2005. In 1975 he was elected mayor, but from 1983 he was only second vice mayor, while he was elected to the Inatsisartut for the first time in 1984 . In 1987 he was re-elected. In 1989 he was again mayor of his home parish. In 1991 he was elected to parliament for the third time in a row. From 1992 to 1995 he sat on the municipal reform commission. From 1995 he was again not mayor, but at the same time he was elected to parliament for the fourth time and also appointed President of Parliament, which he was until 1997, before he was replaced by Anders Andreassen . From 1999 he no longer sat in parliament, but was again mayor from 2001 to 2005.

On July 13, 1993 he was awarded the Nersornaat in silver, then received the same in gold on September 27, 1996 and was made a knight of the Dannebrog Order in 1997.
