Knut Großmann (born January 9, 1949 in Ottendorf-Okrilla ; † January 16, 2016 in Dresden ) was a German engineer and university professor .

Life

After high school and skilled worker qualification as a lathe operator at VEB Elektromat Dresden, Knut Großmann began studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Dresden in 1967 and graduated in 1971 with a diploma. He then began to study research at the Institute for Machine Tools in Dresden , where he was a scientific assistant from 1974 to 1978. In 1976 he received his doctorate in engineering. with the topic "A contribution to model finding and calculation for the dynamic analysis of machine tool structures".

From 1978 to 1990 Knut Großmann worked as a research assistant and head of research and development at VEB Mikromat Dresden. In 1990 he was a co-founder of the ITI Gesellschaft für ingenieurtechnische Informationsverarbeitung mbH Dresden and its managing director until 2000.

He completed his habilitation in 1991 at the Technical University of Dresden on the subject of "dynamic behavior analysis on cutting machine tools" .

Knut Großmann was appointed professor for machine tool development in 1994 and was director of the Institute for Machine Tools and Control Technology at TU Dresden from 1994 to 2014 . From 2011 to 2014 he was also the spokesman for the DFG special research area / Transregio 96 “Thermo-energetic design of machine tools”. Großmann was a member of the Scientific Society for Production Technology and worked as a reviewer for the German Research Foundation and the working group of industrial research associations "Otto von Guericke" .

Großmann died on January 16, 2016 in Dresden.
