Los Patios is a municipality ( municipio ) in Departamento de Norte Santander in Colombia . Los Patios is part of the Cúcuta metropolitan area .

geography

Los Patios is located in Norte de Santander, in the Metropolitana region , 7 km south of Cúcuta at an altitude of 250 m above sea level. NN and has an average annual temperature of about 27 ° C. The municipality is located in a part of the Cordillera of the Andes , where the urban part of the community is located on relatively flat terrain. The municipality is bordered to the north and northwest of Cucuta, on the east by Villa del Rosario , in the southeast on Ragonvalia , in the south and southwest by Chinacota and to the west Bochalema and Cucuta.

The municipality of Los Patios has 80,235 inhabitants, of which 77,922 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality. 892,732 people live in the metropolitan region (as of 2019).

history

Los Patios received parish status only in 1985. As early as the beginning of the 19th century, however, haciendas and caseríos are documented in the area of today's municipality . A battle of the War of Independence took place there. This Batalla de Carrillo was won by the Spaniards. Another place in today's parish was a place where insurgents were executed. Los Patios received a certain increase in population during the War of the Thousand Days , as displaced families settled there.

economy

The main industry of Los Patios is agriculture , which is practiced in the rural part of the municipality. However, the community is severely affected by rural exodus.
