Tibu is a municipality ( municipio ) in Departamento de Norte Santander in Colombia . Tibú is the seat of the Diocese of Tibú .

geography

Tibú is located in the northeast of Norte de Santander 125 km from Cúcuta at an altitude of 75 m above sea level. NN in the Catatumbo region and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. The main town is about 15 minutes from the Venezuelan border. The border town is called Tres Bocas . The municipality borders in the north and east on the state of Zulia in Venezuela, in the south on Cúcuta, El Zulia and Sardinata and in the west on Hacarí , San Calixto , El Tarra and Teorama .

history

The Catatumbo region was settled relatively late by non-indigenous people, as the jungle, the thunderstorms and the resistance of the Motilones indigenous people deterred possible settlers. Tibú received parish status only in 1977.
