Sardinata is a Colombian municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Norte de Santander .

geography

Sardinata is located in the north of Norte de Santander at an altitude of 320  m above sea level. NN in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes about 65 km from Cúcuta and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. The municipality borders on Tibú to the north, Cúcuta and El Zulia to the east, San Calixto , Hacarí , Ábrego and Bucarasica to the west and Lourdes , Gramalote and El Zulia to the south .

The municipality of Sardinata has 22,583 inhabitants, of which 9303 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

Sardinata received the status of a parish in 1906 due to the efforts of the priest Raimundo Ordoñez Yañez.

An explosion in a coal mine La Preciosa in January 2011, 21 miners were killed. Four years earlier, 31 people had been killed in a gas accident.
