Villa del Rosario is a municipality ( municipio ) in Departamento de Norte Santander in the east of Colombia . It belongs to the metropolitan area of the Cúcuta metropolitan area . Compared to the coordinated universal time , the local time of the congregation is five hours behind.

The municipality borders Venezuela in the north and east , as well as the Colombian municipalities of Cúcuta in the north, Ragonvalia and Chinácota in the south and Los Patios in the west. history
The community dates back to 1761. The founders are generally Doña Ascencia Rodríguez de Morales and Don José Díaz de Austudillo, who donated the land necessary to found the place. The village became a parish in 1774. In view of its importance, the citizens of Villa del Rosario asked the Spanish King Charles IV for the place name title of a villa . On May 23, 1792, Nuestra Señora del Rosario was awarded the title of "Noble, fell y Valerosa Villa" with a royal charter .
Some important residents come from Villa del Rosario, including the lawyer and general Francisco de Paula Santander , whose work in the War of Independence and in the Republic made him the head of public administration and the democratic center of the state. In 1821 the first Greater Colombian constitution was drawn up in the village, which is why Villa del Rosario can be described as the birthplace of today's states of Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.

Attractions

In Villa del Rosario, the Puente Internacional Simón Bolívar bridge over the Río Táchira between the district of La Parada and San Antonio del Táchira is the most important border crossing between Colombia and Venezuela. The Autopista Internacional connects the municipality with Cúcuta and San Cristóbal in Venezuela.
