Kobayashi has mainly participated in the Far East Cup since 2005 . She has won 19 so far (as of the end of the 2016/17 season) and took third place in the overall standings in 2010/11 , 2012/13 and 2016/17 . She won the cup in 2011/12 , 2013/14 , 2014/15 and 2015/16 . She made her World Cup debut in March 2008 in Bormio , which she finished in 58th place in the 2.5 km freestyle. She got her first World Cup points in December 2010 in La Clusaz with 28th place in the 15 km mass start race. In February 2011 she won the bronze medal in the 10 km freestyle and the team sprint and the silver medal with the relay at the Asian Winter Games . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 , she finished 42nd in the skiathlon , 27th in the 30 km mass start race and 10th place in the relay. In March 2013 she achieved her best individual World Cup result to date with 19th place in the 30 km mass start race in Oslo. Her best placement at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme was 35th in the 30 km mass start race. In January 2014 she became the Japanese champion in the 5 km classic and in the 5 km pursuit. At the Japanese Championships in Tōkamachi in 2015 , she won the 10 km skiathlon race. At the subsequent Nordic World Ski Championships in 2015 in Falun , she finished 34th in the skiathlon, 30th in the 30km mass start race and 11th in 10km freestyle. In March 2016, she won the Japanese championships in Sapporo in the 30 km mass start race and in the skiathlon. In the 2016/17 season she took 50th place in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer and 49th place in the World Cup final in Québec . In January 2017, she became the Japanese skiathlon champion in Tōkamachi. In the following month she achieved her first top ten placement in the World Cup singles in Pyeongchang with tenth place in the skiathlon. At the Winter Asian Games 2017 in Sapporo, she won the gold medal in the 15 km mass start race, over 10 km freestyle, with the relay and over 5 km classic. In February 2018 she won the Sapporo International Ski Marathon over 50 km.
