Koboltstal heads

The Koboltstaler heads are three-headed, a maximum of about 673  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Harz low mountain range . They are located between Sankt Andreasberg and Sieber in the non-parish Harz region of the Göttingen district in Lower Saxony .

Geographical location

The Koboltstal heads rise in the Upper Harz in the Harz Nature Park . They are located around 4 km southwest of Sankt Andreasberg (Braunlage) and around 4 km east-southeast of Sieber (Herzberg am Harz). Its eastern flank slopes down to the Sperrlutter , in the valley of which lies about 1.8 km northeast of the Silberhütte mountain (Braunlage).

To the south-west extends, mostly at altitudes of 600 to 650  m , a ridge called the Gödeckenkopf or Gödeckekopf . It is bordered in the west by the Mittlerer Gödeckental and in the east by the Kleiner Gödeckental . To the south it drops steeply at its end towards the Großes Gödeckental .

Mountain heights and crests

The highest of the three peaks of the Koboltstaler Köpfe is the approximately 673  m high north-northwest tip . The other two peaks are located about 300 m to the east (north-north-east dome; approx .  670  m ) and 350 m south-southeast (south dome; approx.  665  m ). There is a fork in the forest path between the northern crests at an altitude of 667.4  m . The three heads are accessible from all sides with forest roads.

Forest cover

The Koboltstaler Köpfe and the Gödeckenkopf are almost exclusively forested with spruce trees. In 1596, beeches grew on the Gödeckenkopf down into the valleys.
