Ion Voinescu (born April 18, 1929 in Valea Dragului , Giurgiu district , † March 9, 2018 ) was a Romanian football player in the position of goalkeeper . He came to 185 appearances in the top Romanian league, Divizia A , and took part in the 1952 Olympic Games .
Career as a player
Voinescu began playing football at Olympia Bucharest and was active in various clubs before he in 1947 to RATA Targu Mures changed, which at that time Romanian in the top league, the Divizia A played. On March 7, 1948 he came there for his first assignment. At the beginning of the 1948/49 season he moved to league rivals Metalul Bucharest and became a regular there, but could not prevent relegation.
During the following season there was the opportunity for Voinescu to switch to CCA Bucharest (later Steaua Bucharest) and thus to a Romanian top club. He stayed with the club until the end of his career in 1963. During these 13 years Voinescu was able to win six championship titles and five cup wins, but was rarely a regular player and constantly fought with his competitor Constantin Toma for the place in the goal. Only at the beginning and at the end of his time at CCA and Steaua did he regularly work.
National team
Although not always a regular goalkeeper in the club, Voinescu came to 22 games for the Romanian national football team between 1949 and 1962 . He made his debut on October 23, 1949 against Albania . In 1952 Voinescu was in the squad for the Olympic Games in Helsinki and was used in the game against the eventual Olympic champion Hungary .
Career as a coach
After the end of his active career, Voinescu worked in various functions at Steaua Bucharest , mainly as a trainer in the children and youth sector. As a goalkeeper coach he trained Helmuth Duckadam , Vasile Iordache , Dumitru Stângaciu and Dumitru Moraru, among others . He later coached AS Armata Târgu Mureş and Sfântu Gheorghe . At the end of the 1980s, he retired from the soccer business.

Others
Voinescu lived in Bucharest in the same block of flats as his friend and former teammate Vasile Zavoda . He died on March 9, 2018 at the age of 88.
