Vasile Iordache (born October 9, 1950 in Iași ) is a former Romanian football player and later coach . The goalkeeper denied 271 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A . As a national player, he took part in the 1984 European Football Championship .

Career as a player

Vasile Iordache's career began in 1969 in his hometown of Iași with Politehnica Iași , when he was appointed to the first team squad and came on August 24, 1969 for his first appearance in League 1 . In the 1970/71 season he established himself as a regular player and moved to the Romanian top team Steaua Bucharest in the summer of 1971 .

After initial difficulties, he initially competed with Carol Haidu , later with Dumitru Moraru , for the place in the gate of Steaua. None of the goalkeepers was used regularly over a long period of time. Only in the duel with Necula Răducanu was Iordache able to maintain his place and was the undisputed number 1 from 1979 to 1982. At the end of his time at Steaua, he was eventually ousted by Helmuth Duckadam from the gate.

Iordache was able to win numerous titles with Steaua. In addition to two championship titles in 1976 and 1978 , he was also able to celebrate two cup wins in 1976 and 1979 . In 1984 he finally left Steaua and moved within Divizia A to FCM Brașov , where he worked as a player- coach. In 1986 he finally gave up his football boots.

National team

Vasile Iordache came to 25 missions for the Romanian national football team . He made his debut on May 12, 1976 in the first leg of the final of the Balkan Cup against Bulgaria . Due to the large number of Romanian goalkeepers, he was only used in a few international matches and was only number one in 1980. In 1984 Iordache was in the squad for the European Championship in France , but could not prevail against Dumitru Moraru and Silviu Lung , so that he was not used. He played his last international match on July 31, 1984 in a friendly against China .

Career as a coach

Already at the end of his playing career was Iordache player-coach of FCM Brasov in the Divizia A . As early as the 1985/86 season , he was primarily concentrating on the job on the sidelines. In 1986 he left Brașov after two years and returned as a goalkeeping coach to his former club Steaua Bucharest . The activity he interrupted in the 1990/91 season when he succeeded Ion Ciocan as head coach of Universitatea Cluj . During the winter break, he was discharged lying in last place.

In 1994 Iordache left Steaua and Romania to take over Al Shabab in the United Arab Emirates . There he was able to celebrate the championship in 1995 and the cup victory in 1997. Iordache came to Al Ain via Al-Ahli , where he again won the national championship.

In 2002 Iordache returned to Romania and was under Cosmin Olăroiu goalkeeping coach at Steaua. He also accompanied him on his next stations FC Național Bucharest and FC Timișoara before he returned to Steaua. Later he was an assistant coach at lower-class clubs.
