Constantin "Costică" Toma (born January 1, 1928 in Brăila ; † May 13, 2008 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian football player in the position of goalkeeper. He denied 108 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .
Career as a player
After spending his youth in Bucharest, Toma moved to Iași to CS Armata Iași in 1950. Just a year later he joined CA Campulung Moldovenesc in Divizia B , where he made promotion at the end of the season. However, Toma left the club and moved to the Romanian top club CCA Bucharest (now Steaua Bucharest ). He remained loyal to CCA until the end of his career in 1961, fighting for the place in goal with Ion Voinescu the entire time . As a result, he came to less than half of the possible games in his nine seasons.
Nevertheless, Tomas time at CCA was successful and he was able to collect seven titles: In 1952 , 1953 , 1956 , 1960 and 1961 the championship was at the end of the season; in the seasons 1952 and 1955 he was able to hold the cup in his hands.
National team
Not only in the club, but also in the national team , Toma fought with Ion Voinescu for the place in the goal. As a result, he had a total of twelve missions between 1953 and 1959. It had its premiere on October 11, 1953 against Bulgaria .
Career as a coach
After the end of his active career Toma worked as a coach in lower leagues, but did not achieve any notable success. Later he worked as a youth coach, initially at FC Constan ,a, from 1979 to 1985 at Luceafărul Bucharest , where he discovered and promoted future national players such as Gheorghe Hagi , Miodrag Belodedici , Gheorghe Popescu , Ioan Sabău , Mircea Rednic , Ioan Andone and Marius Lăcătuș .
