Koi No Yokan is the seventh studio album by the American rock band Deftones and was released on November 9, 2012 in Germany.

Singer Chino Moreno announced an album with Koi No Yokan that has elements of all previous albums of the band and is very melodic. He said that the focus is on the soundscape and not pure brutality. The album was originally supposed to be out on October 5th, but the release date has been postponed. The title Koi No Yokan (恋の予感) is Japanese and can be translated as "premonition of love".

The album was produced by Nick Raskulinecz , with whom Deftones also collaborated on the previous album Diamond Eyes, and recorded at Paramount Studio ( Los Angeles , California ).

Singles

The first published song, Leathers , was offered for free download for a limited time starting September 19, 2012, before being released as the first single on iTunes on October 8. There is also a limited edition cassette that Rosemary has as the B-side .

The second single Tempest appeared on iTunes the next day on October 9th, after the song was released to the public on October 3rd. The song placed in the rock airplay (# 44), the alternative song (# 20), and the mainstream rock charts (# 3) in the USA. However, none of the first two releases has hit the general charts so far.

Swerve City was released as an airplay single on March 30, 2013 and, like Tempest, became a top ten hit on the US mainstream rock charts. After no video was produced for the first two singles, two of them were shot for Swerve City . Originally the band had planned not to produce any music videos.

The music video for Romantic Dreams was released on September 24, 2013, after which the song also entered the mainstream rock charts. The highest position (# 11) was only reached in the eighteenth week on February 22, 2014.

Koi No Yokan received extremely positive reviews. It has often been considered a musical sequel to Diamond Eyes , released in 2010 . It was praised, among other things, that Koi No Yokan corresponds to the old sound of the band, but still allows new influences. A score of 86 was achieved at Metacritic , which corresponds to the rating “Universal Acclaim” (Eng. “All-round praise”). The German music magazine Visions named the album album of the year 2012.
