Kōji Kuramoto

Kōji Kuramoto ( Japanese 蔵本孝二 , Kuramoto Koji ; born August 14, 1951 in Hita ) is a former Japanese judoka . He was in 1976 Olympic runner-up in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 70 kilograms.

Athletic career

The 1.74 m tall Kōji Kuramoto won the 1974 Asian Championships in Seoul. The following year at the World Championships in Vienna in 1975 he defeated Antoni Zajkowski from Poland in the quarterfinals . In the semifinals he was defeated by Vladimir Newsorov from the Soviet Union. Kuramoto won a bronze medal with a win in the hoping round against the Hungarian Károly Molnár .

At the 1976 Olympic Games Kuramoto won his first fight against the Portuguese Antonio Andrade by referee decision (yusei-gachi). Kuramoto ended the round of 16 against the Spaniard Juan Carlos Rodríguez after 3:46 minutes. In the quarter-finals against the British Vacinuff Morrison , a coca rating was decided in favor of the Japanese as well as in the semifinals against the French Patrick Vial . Vladimir Newsorov won the final through Waza-ari .

In addition to his international medals, Kuramoto won three times at the all-Japanese championships from 1974 to 1976.
