Epitaph by Collumbanus Sichlsmit, 1580, Imbach parish church

Columban Sichelschmid (* before 1542 in Imbach ; † April 18, 1580 in Imbach) was a senior servant of the Dominican convent in Imbach .

He was the son of the Senftenberg judge Stephan Sichelschmid and married to a Margaretha. With this he had two sons and two daughters. He lived (like his father before him) in the tower courtyard of Imbach (today Kirchengasse 8).

epitaph

Sichelschmid was well-off among the most influential people of his time in the Kremstal and left an artistically particularly valuable Renaissance epitaph on the left in the presbytery in the Imbach parish church .

On the central epitaph from Solnhofen limestone , the founder can be seen with his wife and children. To the left and right above these there is a city view with a tower in the outer spandrels. That is probably the oldest view of the fortified buildings of the place. Christ and God the Father are enthroned above them in the clouds, and as rulers of the world they touch the globe with their feet. Christ is depicted with a scepter and orb, while God the Father blesses with open arms. In the middle above them, with a halo and a halo, the Holy Spirit appears in the form of a dove, which in turn is entwined in the spandrels by three angels.

Above the architectural frame made of sandstone and an inscription

"DIS IS MY DEAR SON ON THAT / I HAVE A WOLGEFALLEN / SOLT IR HOREN ALL, MATH AM"

On each side a cupid holds a roller and thus frames the cartridge, which in alliance contains the coats of arms of Columban (left) and Margaretha (right). The coat of arms of Columban presents itself as an upright lion with a sickle in hand, while that of Magaretha shows a linden branch. The inscription plaque at the bottom shows the following text:

"HIE · LIGT · BURIED · THE · ERSAM · / VND · WEIS, COLLVMBANVS · SICH͜LSMIT / VND · MARGRETA · HIS · EHLICH͜E · HAVS / FRAV · SAMT · FOUR · IRISH · MARRIAGE / CHILDREN, HE · THOSE · DIED XVIII · APRIL · IN · LXXX · IAR, VND · YOU / THE ... DAY ... OF ... IAR · GOT · WELE · INE / VN, VUS · AL · GN͜E / DIG SEIN "

The inscription and illustration show that the three youngest children probably died before the father, but the eldest daughter and his wife survived him. The latter probably by years, because she is attested as the wife of Josaphat Ysperer "the younger" in 1588. It seems unlikely that she is also buried in the same grave, since the dates of her death on the epitaph have been left open.
