Kongos (in its own spelling KONGOS ) is a South African band that can be assigned to alternative rock . It consists of the four brothers Dylan, Daniel, Jesse and Johnny Kongos, who in turn are the sons of John Kongos , a South African singer and songwriter .

Career

Three of the four brothers were born in London before the family moved to Johannesburg , their father's homeland. Her father is John Kongos , a South African musician of Greek origin who achieved some success in European and American charts in the early 1970s . The youngest son (Daniel) was born in South Africa; the four then attended the Saheti School in Johannesburg. After eight years in South Africa, the family moved to the United States in Phoenix , Arizona , their mother's hometown.

In 2011, Congos released their debut album Lunatic in South Africa, of which the singles I'm Only Joking and Come with Me Now proved to be a great success and placed in the charts. In the United States, the band released Lunatic in October 2013 at their own expense, before being signed by Epic Records in January 2014 and the album was re-released. As a result, the band received greater attention in the United States, to which the single Come with Me Now contributed, which reached number one on the Billboard Top 100 Alternative . In addition, the single was used in various commercials, trailers as well as in the films Holy Motors and The Expendables 3 and in the game Borderlands .

In 2014, Kongos played at various festivals and were on tour with the Kings of Leon .

Trivia

The band expressly points out that it is not called The Kongos , so a designation with an article (the Kongos) would be wrong.
