Konrad Fiałkowski
Konrad Fiałkowski (born December 29, 1939 in Lublin ) is a Polish computer scientist and writer .
Life
Konrad Fiałkowski attended high school in his hometown, won the Physics Olympiad in 1957 and was already involved in the development of professional computer programs in 1959 at the age of twenty. In 1962 he completed his electronics studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology and received his doctorate there in 1964. After his habilitation in 1966, he conducted research at the University of Pennsylvania , headed a research institute from 1975-1981 and was full professor in Warsaw from 1981. He later lived in Vienna . From 1996 until his retirement in 2007 he was a professor at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy .
He is a member of the IEEE and has authored more than eighty scientific publications and books.
In the field of science fiction he made his debut in 1956 in the weekly newspaper Dookoła Świata . Since then he has published numerous short stories, which up until 1979 dealt mainly with wonderful inventions and technical innovations. His only two novels, Homo Divisus (1979) and Adam, One of Us (1986), leave this narrow range of topics and turn to virtual realities and a reinterpretation of the New Testament.
Translations of his works are available in English, Bulgarian, Czech, French, Japanese, German, Portuguese, Russian, Romanian, Slovak, Swedish, Hungarian and Italian.
