Konrad Fuchs (economist)

Konrad Dietmar Fuchs (born November 26, 1938 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian economist and finance manager.

Life

Konrad Fuchs worked as a grocer after completing a commercial apprenticeship. As an external graduate, he studied economics from 1961 to 1965 with a focus on auditing at the University of World Trade . From 1965 to 1972 he was Assistant Professor at the Department of Banking by Hans Krasensky . In 1968 he received his doctorate summa cum laude for a thesis on the forms and attempts to explain corporate growth. In 1972 he qualified as a professor with the business paper “Course Influence Factors Austrian Stocks - An Empirical Business Fundamental Analysis”. After a brief engagement for UNIDO in Egypt in 1971, he switched to a research stay at Columbia University in New York City .

In 1972 he joined the management of ERSTEN Austrian Spar-Casse Bank AG . In 1979 he became deputy director and in 1989 general director and chairman of the board. Under his leadership, ERSTE was converted to a stock corporation and the banking business was comprehensively restructured. In 1997 he resigned at his own request.

For many years, Fuchs was a lecturer in banking automation and management at the chairs for banking and business informatics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . He was appointed full university professor. His main focus was on business administration in public administration, bank automation, bank planning and securities analysis.

He is a member of the supervisory board of several financial services companies, such as UNIQA Insurance (1999–2009). In 1989 he became financial advisor and vice president of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. Since 1999 he has been chairman of the takeover commission for the supervision of takeovers of listed companies.

Private

Fuchs is married to the lawyer Gertraud Fuchs and has four children.

Awards

In 1992 he was awarded the Great Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria and in 1997 the Great Gold Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria .

In 2005 he was awarded the IVA David 2005 by the Austrian Shareholder Association for his commitment to the Vienna Stock Exchange. He is an honorary member of the Catholic student association K.Ö.HV Franco-Bavaria Vienna in the ÖCV . He is a member of the board of trustees of the “Cardinal König Foundation” and the Pro Oriente Foundation. He is a member of the ethics committee of Bankhaus Schelhammer & Schattera KAG.
