Konrad Matthäus , also Conrad Matthäus , (born May 3, 1519 in Alsfeld , † November 28, 1580 ) was a German lawyer .

Life

Konrad Matthäus was born in Alsfeld as the son of the farmer of the same name . He studied at the University of Marburg from 1532 and received his baccalaureus two years later, his master’s degree two years later and then worked as a teacher at the pedagogy . In 1551 he was appointed professor of history at the University of Marburg, and shortly afterwards he also took over the post of professor of rhetoric . On August 27, 1564, after studying law, he received that doctorate . The task of the University Syndikus was assigned to him in 1566 and in 1567 he was appointed to the Hessian collective revision court. Matthew died on November 28, 1580.

Konrad Matthäus was the first member of the Matthäus family to become an important lawyer. The first known family member is Johannes, who can be found in Alsfeld around 1390. He had two sons, Johannes and Bernard, the latter can be proven around 1430. His son was the farmer Konrad, who in turn had two sons, Joachim (who married Anna Orth and had seven children) and Konrad. On December 4, 1544 he married Margarethe Orth. She died on May 21, 1551, so he remarried to Ursula Wernher and had 15 children, of which Philipp Matthäus and Anton Matthäus should be emphasized. Anton continued the family and had twelve children, including Johannes , Konrad , Christoph and another Anton , who continued the family with three other generations of the same name.
