Johann Georg Schürer
Johann Georg (Adam) Schürer (* around 1720 in Raudnitz (Roudnice) on the Elbe in Bohemia ; † February 16, 1786 in Dresden ) was a musician and composer at the Dresden court.
Life
Schürer was a student at the Kapellknabeninstitut in Dresden from 1732 to 1739 and a teacher at the trivial school of the Jesuits in Dresden from 1740 to 1748. Between 1746 and 1748 the Mingottische Operntruppe performed five operas by Schürer in Dresden. In 1748 Schürer became a "church composer" in the court church and received a salary of 300 thalers . His job was to lead Catholic church music for the Dresden court, initially in a chapel on Taschenberg (former opera house on Taschenberg ), and from 1751 in the newly built court church . In this context, Schürer received an increase in salary of 200 thalers in 1754. In 1765 he married the chamber singerWilhelmine Denner. Since 1772 he was supported by his students Joseph Schuster and Franz Seydelmann . At the end of his life, Schürer was not in good health, so he went on two recreational trips in 1773 and 1775. In 1780 he was retired. He died in Dresden in 1786.
Works
Johann Georg Schürer left behind over six hundred handwritten scores, including a. 40 masses , three requiems , 140 psalms, but also oratorios, four Italian operas and a German singspiel. He sold manuscripts of his compositions in 1767, 1772 and 1782. For this purpose, he prepared a directory for each. This includes the 40 masses, three Requiems and three Te Deum as well as numerous compositions of individual liturgical chants, such as the Regina caeli , the Salve Regina and the Lauretanian litany , as well as over 150 psalm compositions. Schürer's work is only partially preserved. His recognition among contemporaries is said to have suffered from the fact that he never made a trip to Italy .
