Konrad von der Schmitt

Konrad von der Schmitt (born January 30, 1887 in Darmstadt , † September 15, 1951 in Langen ) was a Hessian politician ( KPD ) and former member of the Hessian state parliament and the state parliament of the people of Hesse in the Weimar Republic .

Konrad von der Schmitt was born the son of the shoemaker Konrad von der Schmitt and his wife Dorothea nee Bauer. He attended elementary school and secondary school and, after graduating from high school, studied in Giessen and Munich for a higher teaching post. From 1910 he worked at various schools in Hessen. From 1915 to 1918 he did military service. In 1920 he was a senior teacher in Darmstadt and in 1921 in Offenbach, where he became a teacher. In 1925 he was transferred to Alsfeld for communist activities. In 1928 he left the school service and became a full-time KPD functionary. Employed at the Offenbach employment office until 1933. With the seizure of power of the Nazis , he was released in 1933 and in the Dachau concentration camp detained. In 1945 he was acting head of the Offenbach employment office and from 1946 to 1949 a school councilor in the Hessian Ministry of Culture .

From 1923 to 1925 he was a city councilor in Offenbach and from December 7, 1924 to December 7, 1931 a member of the Landtag of the People's State of Hesse . After the Second World War he was from August 30, 1946 (as a replacement for Walter Fisch ) to November 30, 1946 a member of the state assembly that advised the constitution and from October 15, 1949 (as a replacement for Oskar Müller ) to November 30, 1950 a member of the Hessian Landtag.

Konrad von der Schmitt was married several times. On January 8, 1921, he married his first wife Maria nee Becker (1903–1924) in Darmstadt. In 1925 he married his second wife, Klara, née Burmester (1887–1973), whom he remarried on October 8, 1945 in Langen after an interim divorce.
