Konstantin Buga (born June 17, 1985 in Atbassar , Kazakh SSR ) is a German boxer and participant in the 2008 Olympic Games .

Career

Born in Kazakhstan, he started boxing in his homeland at the age of eleven, and in 2002 he came to Germany and was naturalized. The 182 cm tall middleweight competes for the Berlin club NSF Neukölln . He was two times German junior champion.

In 2003 Buga took part in the German men's championships for the first time, but dropped out of the welterweight division (up to 69 kg) early on. In 2005 he won the German championship title for the first time. In the same year he also took part in the World Championships in Mianyang , but retired in the first fight against the later silver medalist Magomed Nurutdinov , Belarus (27: 8). In the same year he was also German champion again.

In 2006 Buga, now starting in the middleweight division (up to 75 kg), was eliminated from the first fight at the European Championships in Plovdiv . At the military world championships in the same year he won his first international medal with a second place.

At the 2007 World Championships in Chicago , he was one of only two German participants (alongside Jack Culcay-Keth ) to qualify directly for the Olympic Games . He won against local heroes Shawn Estrada and lost to the surprise runner-up Alfonso Blanco from Venezuela . At the Olympic Games in Beijing , however, he lost in the first fight against the Ecuadorian Carlos Gongora with 7-14 points.

At the 2009 EU championships in Odense , Buga reached the semi-finals. In this he could not compete due to injury, so that he won the bronze medal. At the World Championships in the same year he reached the quarterfinals after a surprising victory over the favored Cuban Rey Eduardo Recio (10-9 points), in which he finally lost to the Uzbek Abbos Atoyev with 3-4 points.

In 2010 Buga started at the European Championships and retired after defeating Zoltán Harcsa , Hungary (8: 2) in the round of 16 against Adem Kilici, Turkey (RSC 2nd round). In the same year he only reached the semi-finals at the German Championships, which he lost to Dennis Radovan (7-2). In 2012 and 2013 he was eliminated in the preliminary round of the German Championships. In 2014 he won another bronze medal. After not being part of the national team for several years, Bugo was nominated for a match against Switzerland in 2015 and won his fight.

Buga fought for the Velberter BC in the 1st Boxing Bundesliga for many years and became German team champion several times with it.
