Konstantin Rösch

Konstantin Rösch (born February 12, 1869 in Eisenharz, today part of Argenbühl in the Allgäu ; † February 23, 1944 in Münster , Westphalia ) was a German theologian and Bible translator . He was a member of the Order of Capuchin . He was ordained a priest on February 26, 1893 . From autumn 1895 he worked as a lecturer in theology at the religious college of the Capuchins .

Life

In 1914 Konstantin Rösch published a new translation of the four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles , and in 1921 a translation of all the books of the New Testament . Rösch endeavored to translate the Greek text of the New Testament into German as accurately as possible, while at the same time making it as appealing and understandable as possible for contemporary readers. The Vulgate is also taken into account according to Catholic tradition.

In 1967 a new edition of the translation was published by Ferdinand Schöningh ( Paderborn ) in the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles by Johann Kapistran Bott . Christoph Wollek revised this edition again in 1994 for his “ Volksbibel 2000 ”.
