history
The Kopernikus-Gymnasium Wasseralfingen was opened in 1957 as a branch of the Schubart-Gymnasium Aalen . In February 1967, the municipal council of Wasseralfingen decided to build an independent high school. The Kopernikus-Gymnasium Wasseralfingen was opened as Progymnasium Wasseralfingen in the school year 1968/69 , construction work on the current location at Schäle began in 1971. In the 1972/73 school year, teaching began in the new school building. In April 1973, however, there was a major fire, and the buildings could only be used again from January 1974. In the 1976/77 school year, the Progymnasium Wasseralfingen became a full high school, at that time with 695 students in 24 classes. In 1977 it was renamed "Kopernikus-Gymnasium". The Kopernikus Gymnasium has had a school constitution since summer 2003 .
In 2014 the school building was expanded by a 6.3 million euro annex. A former high school student, the Aalen architect Bernd Liebel, won the architectural competition.
