Kopperston (also Kopperstone ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Wyoming County in the US state of West Virginia . The place is 506 m above sea level. Kopperston once had a post office that closed on March 10, 2007. At the time of the United States 2010 , Kopperston had 616 residents.
geography
Kopperston is in the Toney Fork Valley , east of Huff Mountain . It lies in the catchment area of the upper Guyandotte River and is drained towards the Gulf of Mexico . The valley through which West Virginia Route 85 runs runs northeast to southwest.
climate
The climate in this area can be characterized by hot, humid summers and usually mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen climate classification , Kopperston is in the area of influence of the east side climate .
history
Kopperston was founded in 1938 by the Koppers Coal Company as a mining settlement . Funding was discontinued in 1997.
