Korkmazlar (German: Korkmaz family), subtitled “A video series with integrated German learning opportunities for Turkish families”, is an eight-part German fiction series by Erman Okay in collaboration with Hans Barkowski and Evelyn Schulze about the life of a Turkish migrant family in Munich from 1987.
The Turkish-language series, based on German didactics, in the manner of a family series, appeared on video and was shown several times on television.
The famous Turkish actor Yaman Okay played the role of the family man .

The series shows the everyday life of a Turkish Korkmaz family in Germany and addresses their problems, some of which arise from an insufficient command of the German language, and their relationship to Turkish and German neighbors. The Korkmaz family consists of mother Pembe, mistress of the house, father Dursun, print shop worker and, in his opinion, master of the house, daughter Hatime, who is forever in love with the do-it-all Tayfun, the problem child Cengiz, who has broken off his apprenticeship and the youngest daughter Sanem, who mostly Walkman listens.
concept
The concept, developed between 1982 and 1985 and implemented as part of an adult education project carried out in Munich, appeared in 1988 as a cassette program for foreign residents on four video and audio cassettes each, including language magazines, which Turkish migrant workers could borrow from local libraries and which were used in adult education (1994 appeared again extra sheets for the lessons to the series). Before the publication of the media combination, the magazine Learn German emphasized that Korkmazlar took special account of the fact that “immigrant families largely (had) video devices, but the German language was (however) only of limited use and only limited learnable”.

Television broadcasts
Korkmazlar was first seen with German subtitles in January / February 1989 on German television on West 3 . Numerous repetitions in all third programs and on Eins Plus followed. The series was last seen on 3sat in 1993/1994 .
