Kowaliwka ( Ukrainian Ковалівка ; Russian Ковалевка Kowalewka ) is a village in the northeast of the Ukrainian Cherkassy Oblast with about 600 inhabitants (2012).

history

In 1971, 1180 people lived in the village, which was founded in the 17th century. By 2001 the population had dropped to 700 and in 2012 the village only had about 600 inhabitants.

In the 1840s the village was twice of Taras Shevchenko visited that here the marshal of the province Poltava Alexei Kapnist ( Алексей Васильевич Капнист ; 1796-1867) met. In 1962 a monument to Taras Shevchenko was inaugurated in the village.

Kowaliwka is the administrative center of the eponymous district municipality in northern Rajon Drabiw nor the village to the Hretschaniwka ( Гречанівка , ) is one of about 200 residents.

The village is located on the banks of the Chumhak ( Чумгак ), a 72 km long right tributary of the Orschyzja ( Оржиця ) a tributary of the Sula . Kovalivka is located 27 km north of the Drabiv district center and about 98 km north of the Cherkassy oblast center . The territorial road T-24-09 runs east of the village and the Lubny - Kiev railway line runs north of Kowaliwka .
