Kråkmotinden, Kråkmo, Hamarøy, Nordland, Norway

Kråkmo is a hamlet on the European route E6 , which belongs to the municipality of Hamarøy in Nordland in Norway . Kråkmo is located at the southern end of the lake Fjerdvatnet , also called Kråkmovatnet . There is a street café there.

The place was hardly populated from the middle of the 18th century. Knut Hamsun wrote the novel Die Stadt Segelfoss ( Norwegian Segelfoss by ) here in 1915 .

The roads at Kråkmofjell are particularly steep. Trucks with trailers often get stuck there in winter. From the summit of the 916 meter high Kråkmotind ( German : Kråkmo mountain ) you have a good view of Sagvassdalen and the inner Hamarøy with Gaskačokka and Tilttårnet . In January 1964, Kråkmo fell 514 mm of precipitation, a record in this part of the country.

Kråkmo robbery

The Kråkmoraub ( Norwegian Kråkmoranet ) is the Norwegian name for a planned robbery that was prevented by countermeasures by the police in Kråkmo on September 6, 1996. Two Swedish citizens armed with rifles had planned a robbery on a money transporter at Kråkmofjellet in Hamarøy (north of Fauske ). The raid was thwarted thanks to the cooperation of the Swedish and Norwegian authorities. The Beredskapstroppen , a special unit of the Norwegian police , carried out an armed operation against the two robbers, in which both were arrested in Kråkmo. The police shot and killed one of the robbers trying to escape. This led to a public debate in Norway about the correct use and use of firearms by police and security forces. According to some experts, the fugitive robber who was later killed could have been caught without the use of firearms.
