The Erfurt-Ost power plant (now alternatively also known as gas and steam turbine plant (CCGT) ) is a thermal power plant in the northeast of Erfurt . The power plant is an integral part of the city's electricity and district heating .

Plant parts

Old power plant

The power plant originally consisted of four blocks fired with raw lignite , heavy oil and Thuringian natural gas . After reunification, these were gradually shut down due to outdated system technology, lack of profitability and environmental considerations. The 226 meter high chimney, which was the tallest structure in Thuringia, was removed in January 2003.

Gas and steam turbine plant (CCGT)

The aforementioned old blocks were replaced in 1999 by a modern gas and steam turbine system (CCGT), which today forms the heart of the power plant. The combined cycle plant consists of two gas turbines (output 25 MW el , type GE LM 2500 ), two waste heat steam generators with additional firing and a steam turbine (output 32 MW el ). Fuel is natural gas and extra-light heating oil (the latter only reserve fuel ). The output of the power plant is 80 megawatts of electrical energy and 224 MW of thermal energy. A district heating output of 128 MW can be extracted.

Residual waste treatment plant (RABA)

At the Erfurt-Ost location, TUS - Thüringer UmweltService GmbH also operates a residual waste treatment plant (RABA) on behalf of the city of Erfurt, consisting of a mechanical-biological treatment and an incineration plant for waste and substitute fuels . The power plant has a capacity of 80,000 tons per year of substitute fuels
