The Félou power plant ( French aménagement hydroélectrique de Félou ) is a hydropower plant in the Kayes region , Mali , which is located on Senegal by the Félou waterfalls. The town of Kayes is approximately 15 km downstream from the power station and the Manantali Dam is approximately 200 km upstream.
The power plant was built from 2009 to 2013 and commissioned in December 2013. It is owned by the Société de Gestion de l'Energie de Manantali (SOGEM) and is also operated by SOGEM.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a wall with a length of 945 m and a maximum height of 2 m, which was built at the Félou waterfalls. The top of the wall is at a height of 40 m above sea level . There is a weir system on the left bank of the river , which directs the water through a canal to the power plant's machine house.
power plant
The installed capacity of the power plant with three turbines is 59 (or 60, 62.3 or 63) MW . The average annual production is 325 (or 335, 340 or 431) million kWh . The machine house is on the left side of the river.
The maximum height of fall is 13.8 (or 13.9) m. The maximum flow rate is a total of 500 m³ / s for all turbines. The electricity generated is carried away via a 225 kV line.
A small hydroelectric power station was built near the falls in the early 1920s and was repaired in 1992; with a flow rate of 5 m³ / s it had an output of 0.6 MW.
Others
The cost for the construction of the power plant are 125.7 (or 211.5) million € given.
